Mr. William J. McGinley incorporates Methode Electronics, Inc.

1947

Methode manufactures sockets for miniature vacuum tube, first used in military walkie-talkies.

1951

Methode sockets were ruggedized and fitted with RFI-protective shielding for Korean War military radios.

1954

First mass producer of PC Boards with tighter traces for radio and TV applications.

1956-1965

1958

First company acquisition: Thermoceram, a manufacturer of headers for semiconductors.

1962

Acquired Carter Precision Electric, a supplier of switches to the automotive industry.

1966-1975

1968

Began producing computer backplanes and entered into the custom wire-wrap business.

1969

Acquired Graphic Research and Reliant Precision to enhance Methode’s PCB capabilities.

1975

Opened Carthage, Illinois, manufacturing facility to meet demands of the expanding automotive industry.

1976-1985

1976-1980

Patented the original integrated circuit “Surface Mount Chip Carrier Socket.”

1979-1980

Manufactured Surface Mount Chip Carriers for world’s leading semiconductor chip producers.

1980

Licensed more than thirty companies who produced Methode designs, each for more than ten years.

First “clockspring” transducer developed, a design that was incorporated into various automotive steering, switch and safety devices.

Methode began to develop fiber-optic connectors.

Methode pioneered development of Gigabit-speed optical transceivers.

Methode founder William J. McGinley dies.

Methode named to Chicago “Fast 50” list by Deloitte & Touche, based on outstanding five-year revenue growth during 1995-2000

Acquired American Components, Inc., an automotive-safety sensor business for occupant detection systems, and formed the Automotive Safety Technologies business unit.

Expanded global presence by opening Methode’s Shanghai, China,manufacturing facility for automotive, power and interconnect products.

2005

Designed, developed and manufactured world’s first small-footprint, RJ-45 Copper Transceiver with Gigabit-speed capability.

Licensed Immersion Inc.’s haptics technology and developed application solutions with TouchSensor™ technology.

Acquired Cableco to expand its power distribution technologies and capabilities in power cabling and interconnection.

Methode launched more than sixty new programs in the automotive market.
